The Museum of Fictional Histories
In Collaboration with Greta Pepper
There is a fine, arguably arbitrary line between what is defined as art or craft, and by extension what is considered fit to be displayed in an art gallery and what is better suited to a museum. The purpose of this show was to explore this tension by assuming the format of a museum display. Our work, based in craft media, was presented as the artifacts of two cultures of our own invention; My work represented “The Neelan”, a mystical village-dwelling people who populated a medieval fantasy world. Greta's invention, “The Makers” were presented as a subculture of a dystopic East Coast Canada approx. 35 years in the future.
From the Exhibition:
"The Museum of Fictional Histories presents an exhibition of artifacts from two exciting events: the excavation of what is believed to have been the infamous Price farmhouse; and the return of Helen Trillo after an estimated eight years of living among the previously unknown Neelan people. This exhibit, featuring well-preserved textiles, ceramic pieces and other precious artifacts provides a rare opportunity to view relics of the craft rebellion of 2055 contrasted with exotic artifacts of the Neelan culture from Trillo’s private collection."
